A dedicated and accomplished educational leader with over two decades of experience and a proven track record as a turnaround expert, Michael Turner began his tenure as Superintendent of Bessemer City Schools on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Known for his strategic approach and collaborative spirit, Turner is committed to leading the Bessemer City School district out of state intervention through a strong partnership with Alabama education officials, embodying the district's motto, "Believe in Bessemer."

A Tulsa, Okla. native, Turner brings a wealth of experience in Alabama's educational landscape, having previously served with distinction as a principal in two Alabama districts for a combined 23 years.

He expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, stating, "I'm incredibly excited about this opportunity. I truly believe in Bessemer and what we can accomplish together. I'm looking forward to getting out into schools, getting out into the community, shaking hands, really hearing from the people."

Turner's educational foundation is rooted in Alabama's public school system. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Social Studies from Miles College (‘96) in Fairfield, Ala., followed by a Master of Education degree in Educational Administration and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership, both from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala.
