Welcome to the Federal Programs page for Bessemer City Schools.  In the Federal Programs office, we strive diligently to follow all components and intentions of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001.  In accordance with NCLB, we provide funding to 6 Title I public schools, 3 private schools in the Bessemer City District and our high school which is a targeted assisted school.  The private schools that we serve are St. Aloysius Catholic School, New Life Learning Center, and Bessemer Academy. The No Child Left Behind Act is based on stronger accountability for results, more freedom for states and communities, proven educational methods, and more choices for parents.

 Title I School-Wide Schools:


Supplemental Education Services (SES):

Those students who qualify at a school that is in School Improvement will be eligible to receive Supplemental Education Services (SES).

 Supplemental Education Services (SES) is FREE tutoring paid for by the district!!! Tutoring in reading/language arts and/or mathematics is available to all students at Bessemer City High School. Only this school qualifies due to their status in School Improvement according to No Child Left Behind 



The Bessemer City School System receives funding from the Federal government to administer programs under its mandate.  The primary goal of Federal Programs is to improve student achievement through increased parental involvement, teacher training, and student services while providing technical assistance to schools.
